Antique

There's a lot of ANTIQUES at the R.O.M. (Royal Ontario Museum), but the Egyptian antiquities would have to be my favourites. This particular coffin may not be one of the more colourful and gold laden coffins on display, but I like it because of it's story. His name was Nakht, and he was a weaver from a small village on the banks of the Nile. He died almost 3000 years ago, and his family loved him enough to ensure that he was buried in a good quality coffin where his name and occupation were displayed for posterity. He may not have been Tutankhamun, but now, generations of people will know his name as they pass through the R.O.M. Here are his canopic jars which housed his vital organs.
Happy Photohunting!

He probably never would have guessed that someone 3,000 years later would know his name and occupation. Neat photos!

I saw some of the Egyptian exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC when we visited this summer. Some of the pieces are so colorful and amazing to know how they did the color and how on earth did it last all these years.

I thought only royalty were treated like that: that is nice that it was others, too. Those are great shots.

A visit to ROM is one of the family trips we've been planning. Been there once (dating days).

A great pick (again) for this week's theme.

I'm late in posting mine. It will be up shortly.

Excellent and impressive entry. When seeing such old objects, I often wonder, how long will what we make today last?

I have 4 (replica) canopic jars on my dresser in my bedroom, which is decorated like an Egyptian tomb!
