He a Baby-Daddy!

I have been informed that Nermal is the baby-daddy of his ex's chilrens.... back in the spring of 2003 before we left the Philippines, Nermal's ex Fluffy was in heat.... I thought that Nermal, being an inexperienced young buck who had just turned one, wasn't getting the deed done.... I was wrong! Mah boi good....

I guess what they did when I was out was more productive than the strange and disturbing kitty 69'ing they allowed me the unfortunate privilege to see.... actually it was less of 69'ing and more 9d'ing, if you can imagine that....

(pause to imagine).....

So, here is the the family tree....

Fluffy and Nermal begat....

Lickitty and Nermal Jr.!

Lickitty is a boy who takes after his mother... he gets his name from his unusual habit of licking the fingers of sleeping beauties.

Nermal Jr. is a girl who has her father's eyes.... sans the lacrimal duct obstruction.... she is apparently a bit of a snob... which she did not inherit from her father... she appears to be a brown tabby which confirms my earlier suspicions that beneath the white fur of Fluffy lay the genetics of a brown tabby.... the white coat gene is a dominant trait and will mask the coat colour and pattern genes.... I suspected that Fluffy had genes for a brown coat and tabby markings because oftentimes I would find random non-white hairs on her.... on closer examination they appeared brown or black with banding patterns consistent with the hair of a tabby.... okay, I better stop myself before I turn this into a discussion on feline genetics.... I used to read up on it a lot in anticipation of Fluffy and Nermal's mating, so I could probably pull out my punnet squares and go on and on.... I never actually thought I'd get any answers to my questions until the news was confirmed... okay, sometimes I just have to learn to stop over-analyzing things and just enjoy the ride and the view....

Back to the family tree.... in a feat of Oedipal proportions, Lickitty and Fluffy begat Naffy and Nopy....

Nopy has apparently inherited his grandfather Nermal's penchant for playing nicky nicky nine door...

So there you have it folks, Nermal a daddy and a grand daddy, and I's a grand pappy and great grand pappy!

On his last birthday, I had mentioned that Nermal had been working on a new trick for quite some time.... But unfortunately we haven't had a chance to film it for y'all.... well our schedules finally converged, so here is Nermal's latest death-defying feat of catrobatics! Are you ready for it?... but first, let's recap some of his old tricks....

And now, for Nermal's newest trick.... drumroll please....

Okay, that trick was not all that it was supposed to be.... Nermal was supposed to have done a triple flip before jumping through the hoop, and the hoop was supposed to be on fire, but Nermal was being a little pussy.... if you listen carefully, you can even hear him whine right before he jumps.... don't worry though, we'll keep working on it....

A Happy Easter Birthday Nermal

Nermal turned 6 years old on Saturday, but we decided to have his...errr, my favourite birthday cake after Easter dinner on Sunday..... Happy Birthday little buddy!Apparently, we haven't had such an early Easter in a hundred years, so I guess it partly explains why it was sort of a White Easter this year.... not really as anticipated as a White Christmas..... no signs of any harbingers of spring yet, but at least it's finally melting away.... until the next snowfall anyway.....Angelo: Let's go for a walk Nermal.....Nermal: Are you MAD man?!Hope you all had a Happy Easter holiday!

Nermal has been working on a new trick for a while now, but because of bouts of arthritis, bad haircuts, laziness, and scary Aidens running around, we haven't had a chance to film the death defying feat of catrobatcis for y'all yet... So for now, I'll just re-post his old repertoire of tricks in anticipation of his new trick.... enjoy....

Baby, It's Cooold Outside

Nermal: I would like to dedicate this post to Tita Mel, who asked to see how I'm looking these days.... I would also like to give out a HOLLA to all my peeps, I misses y'all!

I couldn't be bothered to go out and watch the eclipse last Wed night.... I much rather cozy up to the fireplace and sleep.... you really can't blame me, I am after all, originally from the tropics of Malate.... we are waiting for another snowstorm to come our way this morning, hope you're all staying warm like me....

7 Radom Things About Nermal

Nermal and I have missed playing with all his kitty friends on Tuesdays! I was really busy with offline studying, I don't know what Nermal's excuse is.... I'm not done with my studying, but we have a little bit more time to play right now. We'd like to start off with a quick tribute to our good friend Oscar, purrs and nudges to him in kitty heaven, we'll miss you.... purrs and nudges to his human Robyn too....

Gattina gave us an assignment some time ago, and we've been meaning to complete it for the longest time, so finally, here are 7 random things about Nermal:

1. He's the best alarm clock.
2. He used to hump people's legs when they were sleeping....that's before he got fixed.
3. He likes chicken and tuna, sometimes salmon, but never trout, go figure?
   
4. I think he has arthritis.
   
5. He's always curious what I'm eating or drinking. He'll always beg for some and only quits when I let him see, smell or taste what I'm having.
   
6. It takes about 5 to 6 months for his hair to grow back after a haircut.
7. I just shaved the hair around his butt. I think it's time for another haircut Nermal.

We don't have 7 kitty friends to tag, but maybe I could tag nos amis Laurence et son joli chat Harissa.

Nermal's Nemesis

Well, this being the Easter weekend, Nermal got a chance to see his new nemesis again. This is Nermal (doing his magnum pose).... And this is his nemesis....That's my nephew Aiden... Nermal prefers to run away and hide whenever Aiden is around, so I couldn't get a picture of them together. The last time Nermal sat still long enough so I could take their picture together, Aiden didn't do much moving around and made no noises.... and even back then Nermal didn't like him that much....Aiden must have been 3 or 4 months in that picture. Now that he's 17 months old he's a little more rambunctious. He gets very excited whenever he sees Nermal, and he will usually scream with glee and chase Nermal around. They both usually end up under the furniture....

I vow to one day get a picture of the two of them in peaceful harmony.... until then Nermal would like to wish everybody Peace and a belated happy Easter!

Happy Birthday Nermal!

Last Thursday, March 22, Nermal turned 5 years old! The cake was really for the humans, but I put some cat treats in a little bowl on top of the cake for Nermal. Initially, the cake was interesting for him, until he burned a couple of whiskers, whereupon Nermal wanted nothing more to do with said cake.... I try to keep his birthdays happy for the humans in his life, but for myself, Nermal birthdays ceased to be happy occasions last year, when I realized that they are just a count-down to Nermal's inevitable passing. I'm sorry if that sounds depressing, but it really depresses me to think of how short life is on this earth, and even more so for a beloved pet. I can't even imagine that in another 5, 6, or if I'm extremely lucky, 10 years, I may not have Nermal running to the door to greet me when I come home, or wake me every morning with his incessant purring and face touching.... but such is life..... and while I have him I will make the most of our time.... The cat treats I got him reminded me of that Purina dog food commercial, where the dog jumps up on his human's desk and inspires the human to make dog food in the shape of hearts.... does anybody know that commercial? I've searched YouTube, so I could show it to y'all, but I couldn't find it. The song in the background goes: "There's nothing I wouldn't do to prove my love for you..." So I would like to dedicate that song to my littlest and bestest buddy Nermal on his 5th birthday:
