From the Desk of Nermal de los Angeles

Nermal: My human, Angelo has been so busy lately that he's asked me to blog for him.... we're sorry we haven't played in so long, but it's hard to play on weekdays.... we miss visiting everybody's blogs.... I didn't realize how much hard work this blogging thing can be.... I hardly ever see him anymore, he usually leaves the house at 8:30 AM and doesn't come home until 10:30 PM! (I'm sure Oscar can relate).... He's even gone on Saturdays and Sundays. He leaves me food, but I'm still always hungry! He says he's gotta do some important stuff, but I sure do miss him. We get to play a little bit in the morning (after he feeds me of course).... I like to sneak up on him and go for his feet. He'll chase me, then I'll chase him. It doesn't last for very long coz then he goes on that pesky computer. When he has breakfast I try to get him to feed me whatever he's eating by begging and looking really sad coz I know he'll be leaving me by myself soon.... that usually does the trick ;)

I usually wait for him to come home at the front window.... When he comes through the front door I'm there with a big "meeeoow" and some rubbing and nudging.... with the formalities out of the way, I immediately lead him to my food bowl in the kitchen and beg for food.... sometimes he takes his sweet old time so I have to give him a bit of a "MEEOOOWWWW" while I'm begging.... I even offer him a high five if that will make him feed me faster! After dinner he's usually no where to be found.... what's wrong with this guy, he's gone for hours then just disappears after feeding me? I need to play guy!! I can usually find him in the bedroom watching t.v..... he usually leaves the door slightly ajar, so I just barge in without knocking.... he usually tells me that I should have knocked, but other times he just ignores me and continues to watch Stargate something or other.... in which case I tap him on his back and give a tiny and very pathetic sounding "meow".... that usually does the trick.... he'll usually feel sorry for me at this point, and will pick me up and scratch behind my ear and under my chin, to which I will purr and purr and purr.... I could do this for hours! man, I hope he finishes whatever it is he's doing that's so important SOON....

Soft

Photo Theme. Join the blogroll. Visit participants.

This is a picture of a small snow bank that accumulated on top of the spotlight at the front of the house. I think it looks SOFT. I also like the softening effect it has on the harsh light that comes from the spotlight.
Soon the soft snow will be completely melted away by the heat from the spotlight. Such is the fleeting beauty of winter, and of life in general......

Antique

There's a lot of ANTIQUES at the R.O.M. (Royal Ontario Museum), but the Egyptian antiquities would have to be my favourites. This particular coffin may not be one of the more colourful and gold laden coffins on display, but I like it because of it's story. His name was Nakht, and he was a weaver from a small village on the banks of the Nile. He died almost 3000 years ago, and his family loved him enough to ensure that he was buried in a good quality coffin where his name and occupation were displayed for posterity. He may not have been Tutankhamun, but now, generations of people will know his name as they pass through the R.O.M. Here are his canopic jars which housed his vital organs.

Thursday Thirteen Ed. #8

Thirteen more random oddities and minor annoyances from my week:
  1. `
  2. Okay number 1 was wordless, but doubley annoying. Firstly all that winter gear is annoying, and secondly, my glasses keep fogging up.... Sasha, that's my toque....
  3. Remember gross girl from last week? Her antics continue.... the other day she was sneezing without covering herself, so the guy sitting beside her gave her a paper towel... hint hint gross girl.... well she used the same paper towel until it practically disintegrated into her hand! Then one time she got up and placed her hand on my shoulder!!!! WAT THA!!! I froze in terror, imagining my shoulder contaminated with millions of bacteria and viruses that would slowly make their way to my mucous membranes.... aaarrrgghhh I'm in Hell and I can't move from my spot.... it's okay, I kept my composure....
  4. I found out who it is in class that smells.... his aroma wafted into my nostrils as he walked passed me....
  5. There's more than one smelly guy in that room.... what's wrong with these people, we're not at the gym...
  6. I gave in and went to MacDonald's several times to eat Big Macs, after a whole year's hiatus....I couldn't resist....
  7. Gross girl sat at a different desk! Unfortunately she was replaced by a truly annoying girl, irritating in fact.... Irritating girl keeps swinging her chair around.... I can see her oscillations in my peripheral vision and it makes me dizzy!.... gross girl please come back? At least you were nice and didn't give me a headache..... I won't complain about you anymore?....
  8. Somebody, I won't name names, threw out two of my underwears just because there were a few holes in them.... They were still good!
  9. I missed the bus home by 5 minutes.... I had to wait another 45 mins for the next one.... it was okay, it gave me a chance to walk to the St. Lawrence Market and take some pics along the way.....
  10. I got on the wrong bus going home! I needed to get on the express bus to Meadowvale, instead I got on the one that stops at Cooksville, Erindale, Streetsville and everywhere in between before it gets to Meadowvale....
  11. On top of that, there was a snow storm, so my usual 30-40 min ride home turned into an 80 min ride....arrgghhh....
  12. Did I mention gross girl is a close talker? ...hehe, sorry gross girl, just kidding please come back?
  13. Two words: WINTER DRIVING!

For Tu Anh on Valentine's Day

Now I will show you the way which surpasses all others. If I speak with human tongues and angelic as well, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong, a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and, with full knowledge, comprehend all mysteries, if I have faith great enough to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give everything I have to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs, it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not prone to anger; neither does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love's forebearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure. Love never fails. Prophecies will cease, tongues will be silent, knowledge will pass away. Our knowledge is imperfect and our prophesying is imperfect. When the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child I used to talk like a child, think like a child, reason like a child. When I became a man I put childish ways aside. Now we see indistinctly, as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. My knowledge is imperfect now; then I shall know even as I am known. There are in the end three things that last: faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor. 13:1-13

Broken

Photo Theme. Join the blogroll. Visit participants.

This is a picture of BROKEN ice on the surface of Lake Ontario. I braved some pretty frigid temperatures to grab that shot! Winter's really come back with a vengance. Luckily, the groundhogs had some good news about spring last week.

I've been so busy, I didn't get a chance to play last week, so I'm adding a very late entry for GROSS:
Check out where this bus is going to at 20:50. I've always thought that that was a pretty gross name for a train station!

Happy Photohunting Folks!

Thursday Thirteen Ed. #7

Thirteen random oddities and minor annoyances from the last couple of weeks:
  1. Did the "YMCA" in church.
  2. I've been getting a hat head from wearing a toque.
  3. Got stuck sitting beside a girl in class who really grosses me out. She's always coughing without covering her mouth, and belching out loud without any attempts at disguise. She also sneezes into her hand and wipes it on her pants. On two occasions she has lifted up her arm to expose her armpit and then proceeded to scratch it within 10 cm of my head. I try to avoid her as much as possible because I can't afford to get sick, but she keeps bumping into me when she moves around. Then one time she asked if she could borrow my extra pencil....I told her to keep it hehe....
  4. Somebody in class stinks! (it's not the gross girl)..... I can't breath in there.... hygiene people hygiene!
  5. I caught an upper respiratory tract infection (not from the gross girl)..... I got it from kissing sweetie's mucous membranes.... she told me not to, but I couldn't resist.....
  6. The washing machine was broken for more than a week... it broke just when I needed to do laundry.... I've had to overdress to class.... either that, or wear the same thing over and over again thereby contributing to the odours in the classroom.
  7. Union Station is plastered with these new Diesel Ads: Global Warming Ready?! I don't know whether to commend them for being clever, or be disgusted for making light of a serious issue.... ya the girl IS hot, but does the Earth have to be too? Maybe they're just trying to spark awareness on the issue.... those penguins look confused....
  8. Several times, I've had to hold a very full bladder from bursting on my bus ride into the city.... I hate traffic when you gotta pee, and I'm going to develop renal stones!
  9. It feels like -30 with the wind chill.... sure doesn't feel like global warming in Canada!
  10. I've been trying to cut down on the coffee, but I'm not happy with the withdrawal symptoms I've been experiencing.... Rx: more coffee....
  11. I forgot about the driving hassles that go along with winter.... ice scraping, snow removing, car warming-uping.... it takes longer to warm up my car than it does to drive home from the train station.
  12. Too tired to do anything except eat dinner, shower, and sleep when I get home at 10:30 pm....
  13. I've had little time to blog....arrgghh....

Winter Scenes and Prognostications

Whew! I had a pretty busy week. I haven't had a chance to update let alone spend more than a minute in the blogosphere. I really miss visiting everybody's blogs, but I'm on a bit of a roll with my studying that I didn't want to get distracted. Anyways, today while waiting for the next train home, I decided to go for a walk by the waterfront.... bad idea.... The balmy days of December are over, and Old Man Winter has decided to come home to Toronto with a vengance. I'm not complaining though, it IS January afterall, and this IS Canada, so a year would not be complete without good old Winter. And everything just looks so much better right after a good snowfall. So in honour of Groundhog Day, I'd like to share some wintery scenes with you. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take pictures right after the most recent snow storm when everything looked magical. But I'll make sure to do so next snowstorm. Watch your step, it's very icy....Frozen seagulls..... Brrrrrr...... Inukshuk..... "so the people will know we were here"I checked this year's prognostications from the two groundhogs I trust the most..... Willy from Wiarton, Ontario.... and Phil from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania (pic from CTV.ca).... they both did not see their shadows, so they both predict that Spring is on its way! Even more reason to enjoy the wintery scenery while it lasts! Happy Groundhog Day!
