For Tu Anh on Valentine's Day

Now I will show you the way which surpasses all others. If I speak with human tongues and angelic as well, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong, a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and, with full knowledge, comprehend all mysteries, if I have faith great enough to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give everything I have to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs, it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not prone to anger; neither does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love's forebearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure. Love never fails. Prophecies will cease, tongues will be silent, knowledge will pass away. Our knowledge is imperfect and our prophesying is imperfect. When the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child I used to talk like a child, think like a child, reason like a child. When I became a man I put childish ways aside. Now we see indistinctly, as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. My knowledge is imperfect now; then I shall know even as I am known. There are in the end three things that last: faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor. 13:1-13

Dear Angelo,
You are in my prayers.
Well, just as you said, God is out some where... Life is full of unexpected bad things happening to good people, but it is the beauty and the mystery that God has created. Life without sufferings, without stress, without business, without sorrow, and without crying, then life would be boring, wouldn't it? However, nobody has to suffer for the whole life even Job in the Old Testament, God tests him by punishing him in all kinds, but at the end, he still has his life. God doesn't take his life away. In fact, God has to stop punishing him after he has found out that Job still has strong faith in God even though he does not do anything wrong.
Well, I hope that everything is going well with you. May God bless you always!
Sr. Theresa

Nguyen: Thank you for your words of encouragement Sr. Theresa. I've never read the entire book of Job, but I do remember one line "Happy is the man whom God chastises. Do not reject the punishment of the Almighty. For he wounds, but he binds up; he smites, but his hands give healing." You've inspired me to read the whole book now, I'd like to know what happens in the end :) I have been struggling lately with a crisis of faith.... I try to tell myself the words of St. Paul to the Romans that "we even boast of our afflictions. We know that affliction makes for endurance, and endurance for tested virtue, and tested virtue for hope. And this hope will not leave us disappointed". Hopefully, Job will inspire me to patience. Thank you.
