Architecture

This is not my favourite example of ARCHITECTURE in the City of Toronto, but it definitely is one of the most interesting! It is the Ontario College of Art & Design. I always feel like it's going to topple over whenever I walk by.... it is pretty cool though.

This one, on the other hand, I am excited about......
It is the new Crystal at the Royal Ontario Museum, which is not yet completed, but should be by this June. A lot of people do not like it, but I love the juxtaposition of the new shiny glass and silver, with the old stone of the original facade. It definitely beats what used to sit there. I'm also excited about it because they will finally take the dinosaurs (among other things) out of storage and place them in their new home. The architect is Daniel Libeskind, who also designed (among other things) the new World Trade Center in New York City. If you live in Toronto, the opening will be at sundown, on June 2. They will leave the space empty of exhibits until June 10 so that the public can appreciate the architectural space on its own. BTW, admission will be free on June 2-3. I've been keeping an eye on it's development and taking pictures, so you will definitely see a blog about it when it's completed.

Happy Photohunting Folks!

Very interesting examples of architecture! I hadn't realized they were building an extension onto the ROM (guess I need to do a better job at keeping up with the news from home!) Glad to hear that the dinosaurs will be coming out of storage. :) I'll have to make a point of visiting when we're posted back to Canada.

Great choices for the theme. :)

I'm looking forward to your June post. New art always incites disapproval. I remember in Connecticut when they commissioned and installed work by both Alexander Calder and Carl Andre: the uproar was stupendous! But now, 20-30 years later, they are proud to have the work installed in the city.

kakaiba nga ang architecture ng museum na yan, wala pa nag-attemp na gumawa ng ganyan dito sa pinas. mas maganda pa siguro ang makikita sa loob ng building na yan!

Ever since I came upon his work in FUTURARCH magazine, I became an instant Libeskind fan. His work is like a combination of Meis Van de Rohe and Michael Graves.

Hey there,

I'm an architecture student studying at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. I am currently completing an elective – BBSC 303 Digital Craft (check out http://www.vuw.ac.nz/architecture-onlineteaching/courses/bbsc303/ and http://digital-craft.blogspot.com/) – where we students have to build a CAD model of a daylight museum, and render the model.

I would like to model the Royal Ontario Museum extension by Daniel Libeskind. However, there is minimal information on the building for CAD modeling purposes (particularly being in New Zealand and all).

I was wondering if you knew where/how I could get some plans and sections of the building (or any other additional information)?

Cheers.
